Nigeria to Host Rabat/Khartoum Joint Thematic Meeting on Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling
The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), in its esteemed role as Chair of the Rabat Process on behalf of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is proud to announce that it will host the upcoming Rabat/Khartoum Joint Thematic Meeting on Human Trafficking and the Smuggling of Migrants, scheduled for 4th–5th November 2025 at the Lagos Continental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
This landmark international gathering will be co-chaired by the Republic of France, a longstanding partner in advancing human rights–based migration governance, and will convene over 100 high-level delegates from African and European member states, international organizations, and migration-focused institutions.
Organized under the strategic collaboration between the Rabat Process and the Khartoum Process, the meeting will:
Deepen interregional dialogue on combating human trafficking and migrant smuggling.
Strengthen transnational cooperation on voluntary return and reintegration.
The Rabat and Khartoum Processes serve as complementary dialogue platforms, addressing critical migration routes from West and North Africa under the Rabat Process to the Horn of Africa through the Khartoum Process.
As Chair of the Rabat Process, Nigeria, through NCFRMI, is proud to demonstrate leadership by convening this timely and strategic meeting. Hosting the event in Lagos underscores Nigeria’s commitment to inclusive migration governance while amplifying Africa’s voice in global migration diplomacy.
The Honourable Federal Commissioner reaffirmed that this gathering represents an opportunity to build stronger, more coordinated actions against human trafficking and migrant smuggling, ensuring the protection, dignity, and rights of all Persons of Concern across migration corridors.
