The Honourable Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), currently serving as the Chairman of the Rabat Process, is leading Nigeria’s delegation at a high-level two-day conference on Missing Migrants. The conference is being jointly convened by The Gambia and Switzerland under the Rabat Process and is taking place in Banjul, The Gambia.
With the theme “Bridging the Gaps: Advancing Cooperation on Missing Migrants in the Rabat Process Regions,” the conference provides a strategic platform to address one of the most urgent humanitarian concerns affecting migration routes today.
Key discussions at the conference include:
– Understanding the patterns and drivers of missing migrant cases
– Strengthening preventive measures and emergency response systems
– Upholding the rights of affected families, including access to truth and justice
– Enhancing regional coordination, data sharing, and cross-border cooperation
The event has drawn the participation of high-level dignitaries including the Honourable Minister of Interior of The Gambia, representatives from ECOWAS, the European Union, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), and Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
NCFRMI’s active engagement in this dialogue reflects Nigeria’s deep commitment to regional solidarity, the protection of human rights, and the safeguarding of vulnerable populations along migration routes.
