The Honourable Federal Commissioner paid a special courtesy visit to His Excellency, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Deputy Governor of Lagos State, to convey the Commission’s deepest appreciation for the state’s unwavering support in safeguarding and empowering Persons of Concern (PoCs).
During the visit, the Honourable Commissioner praised Lagos State for its exemplary, multi-sectoral collaboration, which has included:

Providing shelter for unaccompanied migrant children.

Hosting returnees at the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Relief Camp in Igando.

Integrating vulnerable groups into skill acquisition programmes through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA).
The Honourable Commissioner also acknowledged the dedication of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), whose proactive engagement with the Commission’s Southwest Zonal Office demonstrates a deep understanding of migration as a development priority.
As Nigeria currently chairs the Rabat Process – the Euro-African platform on migration and development – the Commission spotlighted Lagos State as a national model for inclusive, sub-national coordination. This recognition underscores Lagos’ critical role in shaping policies that advance humane, development-driven migration management.
The visit also served as an official invitation for Deputy Governor Hamzat to support and participate in upcoming engagements under the Rabat Process. The Honourable Commissioner reaffirmed that Lagos’ continued leadership will be instrumental in driving a forward-looking migration agenda for Nigeria and beyond.
