ABUJA — The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) has officially commenced its Third Eligibility Committee (EC) Meeting for the year 2026, holding from August 31st to September 3rd, 2026.
Representing the Honourable Federal Commissioner of NCFRMI, Dr. Tijani Ahmed Aliyu, the Director of the Human Resources Department, Mr. Bello M. Bello, officially opened the session.
Addressing Global Displacement and Asylum Requests
According to details provided by the Head of the Refugees Affairs Department, Mr. Titus Murdakai, the Committee is currently evaluating over 370 applications from asylum seekers representing various nationalities. The applicants are seeking formal status recognition and legal protection under Nigeria’s established refugee protection framework.
Prominent among the nationalities represented in the current round of reviews are asylum seekers from Syria, Sudan, and Cameroon, alongside applicants from several other nations affected by instability and conflicts.

The Eligibility Committee serves as the statutory authority tasked with determining refugee status in Nigeria. Each application undergoes rigorous evaluation to ensure full alignment with:
